- Indiana Brewers’ Cup – Easily the biggest homebrew competition in our region is coming up in early July. We should have a person who can delivery entries if you’re interested in entering. I also highly encourage attendance as the award ceremony is simply the best. Entries open now and drop off is 16 – 28 June. I’ve attended the last two years if you have questions.
- Fermentation Frenzy – Butler County Brewing Society’s annual competition is happening on 26 July. Entries open now (and already at 196 out of the 300 cap) through 13 July or the capacity is reached. Another great local competition with added bonus of free fair food for lunch and I guess if you’re interested in buying a hog or goat or something at the Butler County fair you could do that too.
- Beer and Sweat – Takes place on Saturday 16 August while they are not yet open for entries you should save the date on your calendar. Or reserve your hotel room. Beer and Sweat is organized by my favorite Cincinnati based homebrew club the Bloatarians and is the best homebrew competition to attend because after the competition it turns into a homebrew beer festival. You get to try all the beers entered and talk with many of the homebrewers who made them. It’s an amazing time like no other.
- DRAFT Brewfest – Registration and entries open tomorrow! Mark your calendars for September 27th at Star City Brewing—and start crafting your excuses now if you can’t make it, because we’ll be judging them almost as harshly as we judge the beer. We’re looking for volunteers to help with cellar management and stewarding. Don’t worry, these jobs are easier than explaining why your IPA tastes like lawn clippings, and they come with serious perks: free food and enough leftover beer to make you forget you volunteered in the first place.
Fair warning: volunteering may result in temporary feelings of usefulness and lasting friendships with fellow beer nerds.
